The ceiling paint above my fireplace is chipping & Ivy is growing up the brick chimney. Are these related?

I moved into a 60+ yr old house 4 years ago and had it completely painted. Walls and ceiling are plaster. The paint above the first floor fireplace is chipping once again. Just had it repaired/repainted, but it is chipping again. We also have ivy growing up the exterior brick chimney. Could these be related? Moisture coming in through the brick? Help!!The ceiling paint above my fireplace is chipping %26amp; Ivy is growing up the brick chimney. Are these related?
Ivy might look nice growing on a wall, but its EXTREMELY invasive and eventually will destroy the wall and whatever is on the other side. Ive seen it rot timber windows right out as the ivy does let moisture in. I would remove it immediately as it is almost definitely the cause of your problems. Good luck:)The ceiling paint above my fireplace is chipping %26amp; Ivy is growing up the brick chimney. Are these related?
lots of folks have ivy on their chimneys so i'm pretty sure its not that...although ivy on masonry is the worst thing you can do to it...ivy feeds on the minerals in the mortar...good luck cleaning it off should you decide to do so...
no

make the new paint an epoxy paint,

if your using the fire place the heat is drying the paint out, causing it to curl
