How to paint the walls and not hit the ceiling with the paint?

Any tricks or tips? How to paint the walls and not hit the ceiling with the paint?
painters tape

go to wal-mart

they have it.How to paint the walls and not hit the ceiling with the paint?
remove the ceiling before you start......lol

painters tape, og cut out a straight piece of cardboard. they also have something like this in plastic called painters guard.
tape
get scotts blue painters tape. it works great
Four different ways I can think of:

1) Use painter's tape on the ceiling. This is easy if you have a plaster ceiling or just plain painted drywall. If you have special texturing, like that popcorn stuff that flakes off all the time, this won't work.

[note: if you want a clean edge after you pull your tape off (not have the paint come off with it), scor the line between the tape and the paint job with a utility knife, but make sure you don't cut too deep and cut into the paper of the drywall.]

2) Use a brush to paint the edges of the wall, but while you do that hold something in your other hand, like a large putty knife or thin sheet of card (card not recommended), to shield the ceiling from being painted. This can work well once you get the hang of it. Practice a bit in the corners of the room (where you can get paint of both sides) until you think you've got it.

3) Buy a special edging painter at your local hardware store. They're cheap, and they're okay, but they never do a perfect job.

4) If you're very careful, you can use a miniroller to do the edges near the ceiling first. Only do this if you have a steady hand and a lot of patience. I wouldn't recommend it.

Personally, I like option 2. You can get a perfect line with little effort, and you don't need to buy any special tools. I don't like the special edger things because I don't have as much control with them.

Hope this helps.
They make the perfect paint pad for that! It is a paint pad that has wheels on one side of it and you just put the wheels against the ceiling and you get a perfect straight line that is very close to the ceiling but doesnt touch it. Just be careful not to load a bunch of paint close to the wheels and dont push real hard. You dont even need to use tape!
Use paint tape and tape the ceiling along the edge so that when the roller or brush goes up there it hits the tape and not the ceiling.
I guess I have been blessed with a steady hand for trim work, I never tape. Use a good trim brush and trim out around the ceiling coming down on the wall at least three inches, do all trim work in corners along base boards and around windown and doors so that when you are ready to roll the paint you won't have to stop and trim out another area before you can start rolling. But if you don't have the conficence to do it by all means use the tape on the ceiling
2 inch masking tape on the ceiling
When I painted my room we put masking tape on the celling right by the wall where it meets and we got no paint on the ceiling.
Put a strip of tape or something where the walls and ceiling meet?
First i use a mini roller and i do the edges of the walls. then when i paint i don't have to worry about that.
Painters tape.
use painter tape and paint slowly
