I am only 5'4'; so it's a pain in the butt for me to paint a ceiling!! I am justing using a pole, roller and brush!What is the best way to paint a ceiling?? Any secrets??
I am a painting contractor and if you want to get it over with as quickly as possible and do not want to spray it...try this, get yourself an 18 inch roller instead of a 9 inch, ceilings are a pain ...even for the pros, but the wide roller shortens the miseryWhat is the best way to paint a ceiling?? Any secrets??
BORROW OR BUY A COMPRESSOR PAINTER UNIT OR JUST DROP THE PAINT CLOTH AGAIN AND USE AN EXTENSION STICK AND GET IT OVER WITH ....AGAIN
Cover your hair, and eyes. Your neck and arms will get tired, so plan an area to stop on the ceiling, so you can have a break. If you have a neck brace, this will help some also. Remember not to over load your roller, but you don't want it dry either.

* Ceiling paint

* Painter's tape

* Roller and brush

* 5-gallon bucket

* Roller grid

* Handle extension

* Drop cloths

Unless you're painting the ceiling the same color and finish as the walls, you should begin by masking off the tops of the walls with painter's tape.

Paint the corners and edges with a brush. If you're painting the ceiling white, make sure to use ceiling paint, which is usually thicker and less likely to drip.

Note: You may want to consider using special paints that roll on blue but dry white. These types of products provide a sharp contrast and help ensure complete coverage and an even finish.

Apply paint to any areas that won't be easily accessible with the roller, and then pour (1 or 2) gallon's of the ceiling paint into a 5-gallon bucket that has been fitted with a roller grid.

Dip the roller into the paint and make several passes over the grid. Tip: Using a relatively dry roller will help reduce splattering.

Be sure to paint and roll in sections so that you are rolling paint onto edges that are still wet. This will allow for a smoother transition between the brushed and rolled areas.

Apply the paint diagonally and in the same direction to avoid creating visible lap marks, and if you're painting a textured ceiling or acoustic ceiling tiles, be sure to use a roller pad with a higher nap.

Continue painting the ceiling in sections until the job is complete. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly and then remove the tape carefully.

Good Luck!
I think that is probably the best way unless you want to spray it ( pretty messy ) I use what your using, pole, brush, roller. I am the same height as you. Must remember to rest the arms and neck often tho and take some asprin or something b/4 you start as undoubtably your neck and shoulders, arms will be sore.
Use a power roller.

This automatically feeds the paint to the roller; for a ceiling that saves a tremendous amount of strain on the back, neck, and shoulders! You can buy one at Home Depot or (*shudder*) WalMart or any other big-box store, or rent one if you're only going to use it for one room.

Use a roller with a plastic guard to reduce the spatter.
