How many coats of white emulsion are needed to paint a ceiling properly?

After the first coat it looks streaky. How many coats of white emulsion are needed to paint a ceiling properly?
On a previously painted white ceiling, two coats is standard practice. Never, one, even if it looks ok after one.

On bare plaster a very thinly watered down coat would be applied first to soak in and take agrip on the plaster, then the two coats.

If you buy cheap paint, then you may need to put more coats on.How many coats of white emulsion are needed to paint a ceiling properly?
Two coats if it is already a light colour. If it is dark you need two coats to get rid of the dark and two coats to go on top of that.

However you DO need to use good quality paint like Dulux/Crown or it will look patchy.
always 2 on previously painted unless bare plaster then one contract matt first

then 2 vinyl matt.

if you put vinyl matt directly onto bare plaster it will flake and peel
Did you clean it first?

It takes as many as it takes, at least 2 but maybe more, it took 5 coats to cover a black ceiling in a previous house.
3 if it was bare plaster, a different colour previously, or a budget emulsion. if not 2 would suffice
If its a good brand like Crown or Deluxe and with a roller it should cover easily with 2 coats.
two should it just fine, sore arms when a painting a ceiling though, good luck
Two, maybe three
